Alec is a trial and appellate litigator who handles high-stakes disputes in his entertainment, business, real estate, and employment practices. Alec has significant trial experience, briefs matters before the California Court of Appeal, and has litigated in state and federal courts throughout California.
Recording artists, film financiers, producers, real estate developers, investors, and closely held businesses turn to Alec when a dispute is consequential and the outcome matters. His advocacy rests on preparation and judgment. He knows the record better than anyone in the room and anticipates the other side’s strategy before it unfolds. He presses his clients’ positions forcefully without giving up credibility with the court or civility toward opposing counsel. That approach has produced results at trial as well as at the negotiating table.
Alec also devotes significant pro bono time to representing survivors of domestic violence, securing protection for clients who could not otherwise afford counsel.
Alec lives in Brentwood with his wife and son. Outside the office, he enjoys traveling, camping, and catching performances at the LA Philharmonic and Geffen Playhouse.
Representative Matters
- Represented and successfully defended rock legend and original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley in a multimillion-dollar palimony action brought by his ex-fiancé.
- Represented and received a favorable jury verdict for entertainment audio engineer in his suit against former partners for breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty. Following the favorable verdict, the matter was resolved for over $1,000,000.
- Represented commercial real estate developer in suit against private equity firm, broker and competitor for misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of fiduciary duty and breach of implied contract. The matter was resolved confidentially and out-of-court, to the satisfaction of both parties.
- Represented and successfully defended commercial real estate developer and investor against suit by former partners for breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, quiet title and specific performance. Successfully expunged the Lis Pendens on the property, inducing a favorable confidential settlement to the satisfaction of both parties.
- Represented tv and film producer in suit against former partners for their failure to provide a screen credit on film that grossed over $350 million. The matter was resolved confidentially and out-of-court to the satisfaction of both parties.
- Represented international film financier and producer in suit against former partners for their failure to provide a screen credit. The matter was resolved confidentially and out-of-court to the satisfaction of both parties.
- Represented a documentary filmmaker in suit against a production company for breach of a Shopping and Production Agreement, unauthorized use of footage, and copyright infringement, seeking an accounting and rescission. The matter was resolved confidentially and out-of-court to the client’s satisfaction.
- Represented recording artist in a dispute with his former management and label entities over breach of fiduciary duty and withheld royalties, including obtaining relief from a cease-and-desist letter that had stalled the client’s recording career. The matter settled favorably, allowing the recording artist to escape his prior management and pursue his career with a major label.
- Represented a boutique law firm in successfully defending against employment discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims brought by a former employee. The matter settled following the filing of a dispositive motion for summary judgment.
- Represented a client in a construction-defect and water-intrusion dispute against a neighboring unit owner following mold and structural damage caused by non-compliant plumbing work. The parties reached a pre-suit settlement.
- Represented an individual investor in suit against a real estate investment firm and its principals for fraud and misrepresentation regarding the scope and use of the investment vehicle and provided funds. The matter settled favorably to the client’s satisfaction.
